Island Verse Poetry Prizes

Small Merry Books

Island Verse Edition

Island Verse Poetry Prizes are awarded to honor a poet's chapbook.  Winners are selected from a competitive pool of manuscripts by nationally recognized poets and the Island Verse editorial board.  Winners will be published within the Island Verse Editions Chapbooks of Maine Series. 

Winner Receives

  • Chapbook publication by Island Verse Editions which are perfect bound and beautifully typeset.
  • $250 honorarium
  • 10 contributor copies

Requirements

  • Entrants must be 18 years of age, and have NOT published  a full-length collection of poetry.
  • Individual poems from the manuscript may have been previously published in magazines, journals, anthologies, or self-published, but must be submitted in manuscript  form.  
  • Manuscript includes a table of contents, is no more than 28 pages, and has title page that includes this information: title of manuscript, your name, address, phone #, email, and a list of the poems that were previously published and where. (Please, one poem per page.)
  • Include a Short Bio that tells how your manuscript informs readers.
  • $20 application fee.
Island Verse Editions is drawn to original poetry that takes risks, tells stories, and conveys insights into human experiences.

  • Atlantic Road Poetry Prize.  2017 Winner: Steven Ostrowski, After the Tate Modern ( in pre-preproduction)
  • Blackrock Poetry Prize.  Submission Deadline: TBA
  • Mackerel Cove Poetry Prize.  Submission Deadline: TBA
Island Verse Story Lab endorses and abides by the Ethical Guidelines of the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP).

Two ways to submit your manuscript: 
  1. Via postal mail.  Be sure to include $20 application fee as a check or money order made out to Island Verse Story Lab, PO Box 321 Swan's Island, ME 04685
